ABSTRACT

Urbanization is a complex social process of spatial realignment. The rapid development of small cities and towns promotes rural development and enables the nearby rural population to make use of urban facilities. As agricultural production intensifies, becomes modernized, and commercializes, its revenue occasionally exceeds that outside agriculture. The reason for declining food-grain area is the low revenue from rice. Normally, the revenue of per mu of sugar cane, fruit crops, vegetables, or fresh pond fish is three to four or even ten times that of rice. Expenditure in the provision of infrastructure and urban facilities can be reduced. Changes in values and life-style are a symptom of urbanization. The spatial spread in urbanization of the delta takes the form of dual diffusion. Education and guidance should be strengthened so that the people may understand foreign technology and knowledge and avoid its detrimental effects.
