ABSTRACT

The rapid development of rural enterprises indicates the success of eight billion peasants in their search for a modernization path suited to China’s conditions. In Shazhou County, Miaoqiao Township, Ouqiao Village established more than ten enterprises from eight sets of machinery. At the rudimentary stage, rural enterprises are part of the sideline production of the collective economy. Indeed, before 1975, villages in Sunan treated the economic activities of rural enterprise as a sideline activity. When rural enterprises are linked to the livelihood of the peasant, enterprise vitality is especially important. There is no power that can repress or deter its development. The Suzhou Purification Facility Company provides an example: the main Purification Facility Plant is linked with eight small and medium-sized enterprises. By increasing incomes and by using “industry to supplement agriculture,” rural enterprises provide a strong material base for agricultural modernization.
