ABSTRACT

Lithuania is on the crossroads to permanent integration into the European Union (EU) and international markets. Growth in the country’s economy and standard of living are influenced a great deal by the expansion of Lithuania’s international business ties, the growth in quality and in volume of foreign capital enterprises, and the creation of international business networks. With the backdrop of a relatively high unemployment rate, companies working in Lithuania are faced with a lack of highly skilled specialists, who are able to communicate effectively with foreign partners and create and maintain international ties. The need to develop such employees points to the importance of master programs in international business that are tailored to meet the needs of the local and international markets. This chapter presents a new master program in international business at Vilnius University and discusses some of its strengths and weaknesses. The results of a study of university students are briefly presented and related to the aims and goals of the program.
