ABSTRACT
Before 2000 b.c.e. there were only small areas of cultivation in the southern part of central Asia. The remainder of the vast stretch of the Eurasian steppes was inhabited by peoples who engaged in hunting, herding, and in some rudimentary plant cultivation.
