ABSTRACT

The chronological limits for the interaction between Asian and Western cultures discussed in this section will range over the time span from the death of Alexander the Great (312 b.c.e.) until the European Renaissance (c. 1550 c.e.). The geographical part of Asia most concerned with this interaction during the early part of the time span was mainly western Asia, including Egypt, the African extension of western Asia, and the Syro-Palestinian Plateau. Other parts of Asia, mainly India and China, came to play a more important role during the later portion of the chronological period under discussion.
