They are operating under a disas trous delusion. The United States has the highest rate of poverty among seventeen industrialized countries; the greatest gaps of income and wealth between rich and poor; while Americans take first place in the number of hours worked per person per year among all industrialized countries, with very little to show for it in improved real income in the bottom 80 percent of the workforce.
