ABSTRACT

A review of Ending Poverty in America: How to Restore the American Dream, ed. John Edwards, Marion Crain, and Arne L. Kalleberg. New York: New Press, 2007.

John Edwards is the lead editor of Ending Poverty in America, a col lection of nineteen essays by well-known experts. This is not a campaign-style book dealing in generalities. It is a very serious book dealing with the precariousness of life in the lower depths that reaches well up into the middle class. It is a product of the University of North Carolina Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity, estab lished by Edwards in February 2005.
