ABSTRACT

Introduction Since the meteoric rise of the fi eld of positive psychology in 2000, an increase of interest in the concept of well-being can also be noticed in tourism research. Despite tourism being an epitome of freedom, self-fulfi lment and choice, there is still limited knowledge on how well-being relates to tourism. This lack of research seems to be particularly puzzling in the context of wellness tourism, since here the tourists are motivated by maintaining or increasing their well-being per defi nition.
