ABSTRACT

Core pricing skills are the most popular workshop topic offered at every Professional Pricing Society conference, as part of their Certified Pricing Professional (CPP) certification. Soft pricing skills are equally important to successfully designing and executing pricing programs. Pricing leaders must develop both hard and soft pricing skills and ensure that their pricing team demonstrates a balance of skills when interacting with internal business people. Pricing professionals must learn more about the science of change management and change leadership. Most of them are proficient in project management. Pricing is a critical function and an integral part of the marketing discipline. As such, pricing professionals must develop strong business acumen in order to interact and work with sales, marketing, innovation, supply chain, and finance professionals. The future of pricing is collaborative pricing. The real challenge is to recognize that businesses are run by humans and that soft skills are critical.
