Key messages • The total urban population in the Volta Basin was estimated to be 5.9 million in 2005,
and this was projected to increase to 16.4 million and 41.0 million by 2025 and 2050 respectively. As of 2010, Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso were the largest urban centres, with populations of more than 1.6 million and 0.7 million respectively.
