Key messages • The governments of the riparian states in the Volta Basin plan to significantly increase large
reservoir water storage in order to support national food security and industrial development. The full development plan for the basin would increase the total storage from 153,124 to 203,437Mm3, the irrigated area from 30,468 to 78,007ha and the installed hydroelectricity generating capacity from 1,044 to 2,031MW by 2050.
