ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents an overview of key concepts discusses in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides a set of particular challenges to the traditional approaches of political communication research that result from the online world. It discusses the general challenges to methodology that result from the changes to political communication research such as big data problem, individualization problem, hybrid problem. The book presents an inventory of theories and methods for political communication research is tested for validity in the online world. The keywords for future developments in research are ubiquity of the Internet, the Internet of things, big data, and semantic web. Online-related political communication research must make serious efforts and changes in order to keep up with the rate of change within political communication, to maintain its ties with other relevant sciences and to accommodate the challenges involved in the structural transformation of political communication.
