ABSTRACT
Over the past decades, a lot of tunnels have been constructed in Korea. In the process of fast economic growth, expressway tunnels, railway tunnels, high-speed railway tunnels, metro tunnels, and utility tunnels were in high demand. Increased amount of passenger vehicles, public transportation, and logistics will demand a greater number of tunnels in the coming decades. Korea is proud of her construction technologies, especially in tunneling and underground development. The state-of-the-art tunneling technologies acquired from the past projects have been used in many other international projects. In this Chapter, five tunneling cases are introduced that are worthy to note because of their historical and technical importance to the Korean tunneling industry.
