ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a thematic overview of neuroethics in Argentina. Drawing from the brain sciences, philosophy of mind, ethics, and the social sciences, neuroethics aims to provide answers to some of the ethical issues raised by the transfer of brain knowledge to various contexts, including medicine, law, philosophy, and health and social policy. The chapter explores to make explicit some of the salient topics and challenges shaping the development of neuroethics in Argentina. It focuses on prevalent cultural and sociopolitical considerations that play a role in how neuroethical issues are identified, perceived, and approached in Argentina. The chapter explains some of the neuroethical concerns that attract more attention locally or are deemed particularly relevant. It presents a number of cultural considerations that shape the understanding and perception of neuroscience, its role and implications, and that make an impact on the development of neuroethics in Argentina.
