ABSTRACT

Since the beginning of time, many families have undergone trials and tribulations but not all are easily broken. In fact, despite hardships, many families will rise above the ashes of despair and thrive like never before. This chapter looks at noteworthy occurrences related to a high or low familial resilience contingent upon having access to strengths-based interventions such as positive psychology. Subsequently, this approach can take place by way of psychotherapy, mentoring, and/or community support. These examples inherently speak to the idea of social justice related to equal and sufficient access to resources (Kincaid, 2008).
