ABSTRACT

DBR is a methodology or overall approach to conducting research, more so than a specific method. It involves partnering researchers with practitioners to set research in real contexts and, through an iterative process of conceptualizing and implementing interventions, to create (1) a design that is usable and useful in the specific context and (2) theoretical principles regarding learning, instruction, and design. In the examples I have seen, most of the practitioners involved were teachers, and designs typically employed advanced technologies/media.
