ABSTRACT

In higher education assessment, there were significantly more studies employing quantitative methods in the 2000s, as compared to the 1990s. One robust methodology that has recently become more popular in research used to higher education assessment and evaluation is Bayesian statistics. Bayesian statistics have become increasingly important in mainstream analysis of data, and the applications of Bayesian statistics in medicine, the natural science, engineering and the social sciences have been increasing dramatically since the middle of the early 1990s. One type of Bayesian statistics, the Bayesian network, may be used in university assessments by outside sources to rank institutions of higher education on performance indicators. In recent decades, public universities have relied more heavily on performance indicators, which demonstrate that the university is able to meet certain goals, to be awarded Federal funding. Survey research is frequently used in higher education assessment. Bayesian methods are recommended to be used in organizational development in higher education.
