ABSTRACT

This study is an analysis of discourse surrounding best evangelical practices in a Chinese Indonesian Evangelical Christian (CIEC) community based in a city in the Northeast U.S. region of New England. As part of a large evangelical movement in Indonesia, leaders and members of the Indonesian Reformed Evangelical (IRE) church are called to evangelize those in their immediate surroundings. Their location in one of the most liberal areas in the U.S. presents an interesting challenge in terms of fulfilling this calling. Finding effective ways to approach their intended audience-whom they refer to as “U.S American liberals”—is of great interest to both leaders and members of this foreign, conservative, evangelical church.
