ABSTRACT

GM crops the large producer of farmers, produce clear health benefits and provides foodstuffs for animal feed. This chapter analyses the factors that contributes to the rapid growth of the application by farmers and the way where the various actors and coalitions are resistant. GM crops gets embed in farming sustains by a belief that its technologies continues to simplify agricultural production and improve farmers livelihood. The chapter reviews the debate on GM crops in Brazil. It explains the trajectory of the debate and the factors that led to the resistance and to the widespread adoption of GMcrops in Brazil by analysing the actors, discourses, arguments, politics and governmental and legal actions. GMcrops tends to accept the pragmatic terms as a survival for smallholder farmers, as a market rationale for cooperatives and producers and as a competitive innovation for scientists and technicians.
