ABSTRACT

This chapter debates the efficacy of Web 2.0 technologies for learning and teaching. It allows for the development of digital literacy in imaginative ways, to order and sort information, and to encourage collaboration and creativity. The chapter explores the debates concerning the pedagogical implications of using Web 2.0 tools in the classroom and the way teachers can appropriate the technologies for their own professional development, too. It highlights the complexity of the contemporary digital landscape for teachers and outlines the interplay of activity concerning Web 2.0 technologies, which cover apps, use of mobile devices, social media and emerging online teacher networks. Teachers are able to unpack where specific writing happened, and to tutor someone in how or what they did, or use it to assess what input and further work is needed with a specific learner or group. Certainly, the growing teacher networks coalescing around the technologies are quite a marked and distinct development.
