ABSTRACT

The Active & Safe Routes to School (ASRTS) program is a community-based national movement dedicated to children's active transportation for the daily journey to school. It also addresses "health, physical activity, and traffic safety issues while taking action on air pollution and climate change". Archikidz aims to help children in an accessible and fun way to become acquainted with architecture and the environment. In 2012 the inaugural Archikidz event was held in Sydney, Australia. Since then more than 6,000 kids and over 400 built environment professionals have participated in an Archikidz event in Australia. City Blossoms began in the late 1990s as a volunteer gardening project in Columbia Heights, by two high school students, Lola Bloom and Rebecca Lemos-Otero. The core philosophy of City Blossoms is "collaboration with community stakeholders to create holistic, accessible green spaces for people of all ages to engage with the environment and each other".
