ABSTRACT

Ecosystem services (ES) are the benefits that societies derive from the ecosystems comprising of the flow of materials, energy and information from the natural environment to societies (Costanza et al., 1997; Wangai et al., 2016; Vaz et al., 2017). The definitions of ES, however, vary among authors who apply varying emphasis on the ecological or economic importance of ES, though all definitions acknowledge a link between ecosystem processes and human utility and well-being (Braat and de Groot, 2012; Müller and Burkhard, 2012).
