The next section outlines the application of this approach by means of an analysis of the
creative production and consumption milieu in the city of Delft.
4. Delft as a Creative City
This section presents Delft as a case study of a creative city. With almost 97,000 inhabi-
tants (Statistics Netherlands, 1-1-2010) Delft is a medium-sized city within the Dutch
urban system. It illustrates that not only large cities set out a creative city policy.
However, rather than being an in-depth study of the creative and cultural industries of
Delft, the three steps described above are used to analyse the city’s production and con-
sumption milieu, in line with the overall aim of this paper.
