ABSTRACT

Uwe was Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science, University of

Amsterdam, and belonged to the Research Group on Political Economy and Transnational

Governance. He worked mainly in the fields of comparative politics and political

economy, with particular reference to Europe and to the study of varieties of capitalism;

recently he had extended his research also to the ‘BRICS’ economies. During his career he

worked as a Visiting Scholar at the European University Institute in Florence, the

Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin, the Center for European Studies at Harvard University,

Uppsala University, the University of New South Wales and the State University of Rio de

Janeiro. His recent works include Open Varieties of Capitalism: Continuity, Change and

Performance (Palgrave 2009) and (as editor) The Changing Political Economies of Small

West European Countries (Amsterdam University Press 2011).
