ABSTRACT
Retrieving refers to the extraction of pre-structured data from digital media and platforms through application programming interfaces. The chapter discusses that the data provided may – due to its grammatization – be standardized in form, yet not in its interpretation, and discusses how researchers can attune internally dynamic data categories. Drawing on different notions of realism, the entry outlines ways of accounting for what standardized data formats are animated by.
