ABSTRACT

Thomas Herzog presents four quotations containing statements that have had an influence on my work as an architect and professor that have even shaped it in a certain respect. He also quotes them in reverse chronological order, beginning with a remark from the 1990s by the Greek architect Alexandros Tombazis one of the most influential architects in his country in the realm of so-called solar construction. He spokes one element of the large-scale roof structure at the Expo 2000 in Hannover. In recent years, the term paradigm shift has become an almost fashionable expression, especially in the field of marketing, and it interests me whether a new paradeigma is evident in our work as architects, or whether this is simply a general phenomenon of the times. The only problem with solar architecture is the architect. The traditional motto of the Technische Universitt Mnchen (TUM) is scientiis at artibus, science and art.
