ABSTRACT

Spacescape is today an established actor on the Swedish architectural and planning consultancy market offering a broad set of services closely related to but distinct from what architectural offices generally offer. Therefore, what typically is analysed in Spacescape's services is not objective physical space but humanly perceived space, a reason why it is argued to better capture the performance of urban space in relation to human systems. Spacescape has been part of many planning projects in these areas and also received a commission from the National Housing and Planning Authorities Boverket to identify the urban design challenges in these areas. In the end, however, what really drives the company is the abundant demand for research-based services in urban design that has developed in recent years, where Spacescape seems to have been able to deliver while at the same time keeping in touch with public opinion and contemporary politics.
