ABSTRACT

Experiences accumulated in the Experimental Education project support the conclusion that well-being and involvement are welcomed by practitioners as most stimulating and helpful to improve the quality of their work. A crucial point about using these scales is that the score is not a judgement on the child but rather on the degree of success of the early year's provision in providing the type and quality of experience to enable the child to flourish and achieve deeper level learning. The aim was to be able to design a high quality outdoor environment rather than the make-do of a small strip of tarmac and grass running adjacent to the church hall. Well-being and involvement in the child, in the youngsters gives her or him energy. As part of the research activity in the pre-school, the staffs were interested to use the LIS-YC instrument to add a further layer to the range of assessment already used.
