ABSTRACT

The genesis of this book lay in our desire to explore the relatively unknown world of ‘coaching’ at high performance levels in disability sport. When researching the potential marketplace for this book, it was clear that there were texts available that address in great depth the history of disability sport, its politico-social infl uences and ethics (Jesperson & McNamee, 2012; Thomas & Smith, 2008), disability sport per se (DePauw & Gavron, 2005) or specifi cally in relation to the Paralympic Games (Brittain, 2009), but there was no book devoted solely to examining coaching in disability sport.
