An analytical mismatch By now, it is widely recognized that corruption is not just an external event that “happens to” a society nor is it merely an anomaly that can be eradicated by punishing bad people. The types and amounts of corruption found in organizations, communities and whole societies have systemic roots and implications and the patterns and variations that we see around the world exhibit a certain amount of regularity or predictability, as a generation’s statistical work has shown.
