ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the logic and complexity of career issues for women as expatriates, particularly when they become pregnant and work in an international company. By focusing on one female employee who works in international companies as an expat, the chapter explores what occurs when a female employee leaves the context of state regulations and enters a context with the economic logic of working life based on competition in favour of the most productive employees. Two processes illustrate the female professional experience: ‘organizing work and family life’ and ‘a pregnant professional applying for a new expat position’.
