ABSTRACT

Introduction Most people, more specifi cally, the poor and rural people of Bangladesh, 1 depend heavily on the environment for their livelihoods. As a result, a degraded environment means fewer resources, for the poor and for future generations. Thus, the ‘sustainable development’ 2 of the country is beyond the imagination of development actors, if the environmental issues are ignored. Considering this, maintaining a balanced relationship between ‘economic growth’ and ‘sustainable development’ is the key concern in poverty reduction and future development of Bangladesh.
