ABSTRACT

Education indeed may be thought of in any case as an attempt to improve what is given. It has to consider the characteristics of individuals, not to assume these characteristics simply from gender. At various times people have believed the following differences are based on inborn characteristics: In deciding which differences may be innate people have the complication that from the earliest moments of their existence individuals are influenced by people around them. The discussion of allegedly innate sex differences keeps bringing us back to the obvious effects which can result from different treatment of males and females in society. Hence, education does not have to be governed by supposedly innate differences in abilities and emotions between males and females. But research on possible sex differences has also the advantage of making us aware of the effects of different treatment of boys and girls.
