ABSTRACT
Though the study of exceptionally high ability, or giftedness, is primarily concerned with a minority of children, it includes all aspects of child development and educational expertise, and must therefore be seen in the context of all children. However, to merit special attention for the highly able it must be (and is) assumed that they are somehow different from other children, that the differences are worthy of concern and investigation, and that some action can be taken on their behalf.
