ABSTRACT
One view of the development of children in home and school environments stresses the discontinuities between development at home and development in school. Another more recent view stresses that there are important continuities between such developments, and that learning in school can be made easier for the young child if these continuities are recognized and built upon. These two views can be considered in turn.
