ABSTRACT

This chapter considers however, the full range of learning opportunities to which adults potentially have access and in which they may participate. Analysis of the survey showed current participation in continuing education and training to be strongest among young men and women. In relation to this chapter, however, what is important is to consider the assumptions about access and the models of adult participation in learning which lie behind the developments. It would seem probable that interest in giving credit to adults, credit transfer, and credit accumulation would be confined to vocational and qualifying courses in the formal sector. Four things, at least, should be apparent from this chapter: In what has been described in this chapter, there are indicators of a model of adult access to, and participation in, learning opportunities which might be relevant to more of the adult population.
