ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of keyconcepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The study of organization and management was reserved almost exclusively for manufacturing and commercial activity. They focused openly on topics classifiable as organization and management relating to universities, colleges, schools, and the wider administrative system at local and State levels. It is in the context of the ideas and practices associated with and fuelled by the twin themes of consumerism and privatization that the following contributions on organization and management have been made The contributors are all experienced and accomplished authors in either their own professional or subject fields in organization and management. It is concerned with system-wide organization and management. It is unlikely that a separate section on organization and management would have appeared in a volume entitled Handbook of Educational Ideas and Practices if it had been published in any decade prior to the 1980s.
