ABSTRACT

Teacher education is provided within such universities by departments, colleges, schools, and faculties subject to overall governance by appropriate internal and external bodies. Also by staff employed by the university and paid on its normal scales. Whatever the structural arrangements, it can be said that teacher development involves eight organizationally distinguishable but related elements. The requirements of the Council for National Academic Awards in validating advanced further education qualifications. Then the degrees has encouraged public sector colleges to attend to many aspects of staff development. The Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals (CVCP) has a Staff Development Policy Commitee which sponsors and encourages participation in short courses aimed at university management. It is within such a framework that significant new ideas and practices for staff supply and development are most likely to emerge, to be tested, and to play their part in educational improvement.
