ABSTRACT

The impetus given by that first journey into space became part of curriculum folklore. In Britain the Nuffield Primary Mathematics Project was one of the first major attempts at subject-based curriculum reform. The production of materials and resources was matched by a participating approach to classroom methodology on the part of the central staff. This approach to curriculum development is explained by the first Director of the project,. In the subsequent decade the work of the Centre was to provide an influential role in the development of curriculum theory. Skilbeck was to provide a major input to the first full credit course in curriculum development by the and the texts which include an extensive discussion of the situational analysis concept. The main concerns, therefore, of curriculum study and theory in the 1960s and 1970s centred around three focuses for curriculum implementation. This report looked across the whole curriculum of primary and secondary education.
