ABSTRACT

Teachers begin to expect the first child to do quite well during her formal schooling, whereas the second should have only moderate success. To introduce an alternative point of view, undertake the following Gedanken experiment. Indeed, it is at the level of this definition that the theory of Multiple Intelligences diverges from more traditional points of view. The linguistic intelligence makes use of rhetoric, for persuasion, allows us to develop semantic storage of information, and also to explain events, including its own operations. People see highly developed forms of interpersonal intelligence in political and religious leaders in skilled parents and teachers, and in individuals enrolled in the helping professions, be they therapists, counsellors, or shamans. Musical intelligence involves the capacities for imitation of vocal targets, for sensitivity to relative as well as absolute pitch. Perhaps recognizing the plurality of intelligences and the manifold ways in which human individuals may exhibit them is an important first step.
