ABSTRACT

The acceptance of some children as very much better at some things than others is affected by social and political outlooks. Consequently, at different times and in different parts of the world, there is great variation in recognition and educational provision for them. The brighter the child, the more he or she will be able to absorb what is offered at home and at school. It is arguable that if educational provision were to meet the needs of each child, then there would be no reason for special concern for any exceptional group. It is also important to be able to help them without access to expensive resources. In brief whatever their talents, those who are exceptionally good at learning will do it faster and in greater depth and breadth than other children. This is particularly notable in primary school project work, when gifted children will need to seek reference from adult level source-books.
