ABSTRACT

Freiburg belongs to one of the warmest cities in Germany because of its geographical location in the upper Rhine valley (Nübler, 1979; Rudloff, 1993). More than 30 days with heat stress can be detected each year (REKLIP, 1995). During extreme summers like the one in 2003, the number of days with heat stress was much higher. Air pollutants are dominantly produced by car traffic due to the absence of industrial emissions (UMEG, 2003).
