This chapter seeks to interrogate current political discourses targeting Latina/o students and focusing on postsecondary educational opportunities. The chapter presents multiple readings of the political climate for Latina/o college choice, all of which are tied to the historic neoliberal movements of 21st-century American politics. These renderings will draw from discursive analyses (Fairclough, 2006) of political “texts” produced by one prominent contemporary figure in Latina/o politics and social opportunity-Janet Napolitano.
