ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the design and development of digital badges, currently in a pilot phase, for teaching-related faculty professional development at Indiana University. Designed with a three-level framework, Learning Technologies (LT) badges are intended to help faculty gain comfort with a learning technology, plan and implement its use in multiple courses, and share results with their colleagues and larger community. Peer review of the advanced level badge by IU’s teaching academy makes the badges appealing to all levels of faculty. Several academic programs are considering encouraging their faculty to earn LT badges, which could count towards their promotion and tenure applications.
