ABSTRACT

This chapter examines how a well-defined competency- based curriculum can lead to a robust digital badging system in higher education. It provides an overview of CBE including relevant definitions and ways of measuring competencies, examples of implementation models, and a discussion on critical planning elements. The chapter also focuses on how competency-based education supports digital badging as a contemporary means to indicate achievement of specific competencies and provides current examples of implementing digital badging in competency-based approaches.
