ABSTRACT
Ramses Amer This chapter on the Sino-Vietnamese border disputes deals with events since 1975 with a special focus on developments since full normalization of bilateral relations in late 1991.1 The Sino-Vietnamese border disputes encompass both land and maritime issues. The major land dispute along the two countries’ 840 mile (1,350 km) long border encompassed approximately 88 square miles (227 km2) of territory. In 1999, the two countries agreed to split these areas, with Vietnam receiving just under 44 square miles (113 km2) and the PRC just over 44 square miles (114 km2).
