ABSTRACT

This chapter has provided a greater insight into visitors' prior expectations and their influence on the multidimensional nature of their engagement with the various heritage interpretation methods available at Alnwick Castle. It has demonstrated how visitors' preferences amongst different types of interpretation were mediatised by the Harry Potter films. The overview of film-induced tourism literature from a cross-disciplinary perspective, among others, also argues that visitors' expectations, interactions and experiences of locations featured in films is an area which has still not been widely explored. This exploration provided a greater understanding of the site's exposure in the Harry Potter films in terms of its impact on visitor expectations in relation to heritage interpretation, as well as the consequent application of Harry-Potter-informed interpretation. The chapter argues that heritage interpretation should be considered as a valuable management tool for developing and managing film-induced tourism heritage attractions.
