ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the situation of refugees in South and Southeast Asia and highlights the latest trends. It discusses the current legal framework at international, regional and national level and points out the weak protection environment for refugees. The chapter then focuses on the challenges refugees experience in accessing their rights—including access to legal status, safety and security; access to justice; access to health; sexual and gender-based violence; access to education; access to livelihoods and access to durable solutions.
