“As Time Goes By:” The Expansion of Women's Roles in Police Work

At the beginning of the twenty-first century, citizens may not find it unusual to see women police officers driving patrol cars, carrying weapons, making arrests, and dealing with violent confrontations. After all, our society is inundated with crime stories on television and in movies that portray women as police detectives and profilers. However, few media depict the full story: women as patrol officers, or as chiefs of police.
