ABSTRACT

Listening across and through disciplines is integral to work in sound studies. This final section brings together scholars who work within their respective disciplines whilst reaching out to their discipline’s relationship to the sonic. Organisationally and often epistemologically, scholars are frequently caught up in a Post-Enlightenment intellectual division of labour that has seen the progressive specialization and compartmentalization of knowledge and interest. This ‘specialization’ is often accompanied by an institutional and often personal desire for inter-disciplinarity – to reach beyond the confines of one’s own specialism. So it is with this spirit of inter-disciplinarity that the following chapters discuss a variety of modes of sonic connectivity.
